“Is there really no distinction between men’s work and women’s work?”

“Well, no, it seems a very mechanical basis for the di-vision of labor, doesn’t it? A person chooses work ac-cording to interest, talent, strength—what has the sex to do with that?”

“Men are physically stronger,” the doctor asserted with professional finality.

“Yes, often, and larger, but what does that matter when we have machines? And even when we don’t have machines, when we must dig with the shovel or carry on the back, the men maybe work faster—the big ones—but the women work longer… . Often I have wished I was as tough as a woman.”

Old Is The New New

The idea was based on a simple thought that “An old book is new to people who haven’t read it”. To execute the idea, agency Dentsu Marcom Pvt Ltd gathered several old books and packaged them exactly like new ones. Wrapped in transparent plastic sheets, the books were placed among the new books in about 50 popular book shops in Delhi, India. On stumbling upon the old books every reader was greeted with an inspiring message that urged him to donate his old books. The response was delightful. Hundreds felt touched and registered. The idea acted as a trigger, readers who could see the difference, could make a difference.

I think this visual diagram helps clear up one of the main confusions regarding the 9/11 Mosque controversy and all of the anti-Islamic attitudes that are so pervasive.

FEEDBACK: "radical" christianity

i’m getting tired of being interviewed for or asked to endorse books that are about “radical christianity.” especially when those books typically use that term to describe what should be garden variety, everyday christianity. it shouldn’t be the work of the “radical” to reach out to those who are…

May you never be uncovered

“Bey Pardeh Me Dhey (May You never Be uncovered)” This is a well known Pastu wish. The phrase implies that in the eyes of God your honor remains intact as long as any shameful or sinful acts are kept secret.
Since 2005, Photographer Kate Orne’s focus has been on the little knows sex-trade in Pakistan which exist under a blanket of denial, modesty, pretense and cultural oppression. She is deeply involved in the community and the efforts being made to improve the lives of the victims. She is the only photographer to be allowed inside the brothels to document the prostitutes and their children, madams, pimps, and trafficking victims who are living stigmatized under Islam. Kate Orne received the 2008 Berenice Abbott award for photography.
